The Sunset Coast extends for 100 km from the south of Santiago de Veraguas, to Cerro Hoya National Park. To reach it, you will turn off at Santiago de Veraguas, cross the village of Atalaya and discover a brand new road for 102 km, up to Las Flores.
In 2021-2022, the Panamanian government invested millions of dollars to rehabilitate the only road that runs along the coast. A pleasure to drive!
On this road, the speed is limited to 50 km/h and reduced to 40 km/h when crossing inhabited areas or villages. These areas are not necessarily identified, so be vigilant.
Even if the road is new, the inhabitants have not changed their habits from when it was only a path. You will therefore come across people on the side of the road, even on the road. You will also see dogs taking a siesta, chickens on a walk, cows in transhumance, horses escaped from their enclosure...
If you are lucky, you will see coatis, pacas, opossums, iguanas, snakes, monkeys, crocodiles, vultures, caracaras... Respect the speed to preserve them.
